The Old Testament recognized and provided for unintentional sins through appropriate sacrifices. Old Testament sacrifices were more than a reminder that accidental wrongs have consequences. They were given in anticipation that God in His grace would provide atonement even for wrongs we didn’t realize we were doing. He did this through the death of Jesus in our place. Grace is getting what we do not deserve. Mercy is not receiving what we do deserve.
구약성경을 보면 의도하지 않았던 죄에 대해서도 그것에 합당한 희생제물을 바치라고 되어 있습니다. 구약의 속죄제물은 과실로 범한 행위에 대해서도 대가를 치러야 한다는 것을 상기시켜 주는 것 이상의 의미가 있었습니다. 제물은 우리가 미처 깨닫지 못하고 저지른 죄까지도 하나님께서 은혜로 속죄해주실 것을 예견하고 바쳐진 것이었습니다. 하나님은 우리를 대신해 예수님을 죽게 하심으로써 그렇게 하셨습니다. 우리가 받을 자격이 없는 데도 주어진 것이 은혜이고, 우리가 마땅히 받아야하는 데도 면제된 것이 자비입니다.
