The root of many problems is broken expectations; if not dealt with, they mature into anger and bitterness. But Stuck in jail and beset by fellow believers in Rome who didn’t like him, Paul saw it God had given him a new mission field. His only expectation was that Christ will be magnified through him. He wasn’t disappointed. If our expectation is to make Christ visible to those around us regardless of where we are or who we are with, we will find those expectations met and even exceeded.
많은 문제들의 근본 원인은 깨어져버린 기대입니다. 적절하게 다루지 않으면 그 문제들은 분노와 괴로움으로 자라게 됩니다. 하지만 바울은 감옥에 갇혀 있었고 그를 좋아하지 않았던 동료 신자들에게 둘러싸여 있었지만, 그 상황을 보면서 하나님이 자기에게 새로운 선교지를 주셨다고 해석하였습니다. 그의 유일한 기대는 그를 통하여 그리스도가 존귀하게 되는 것이었기에 그는 실망하지 않았습니다. 우리가 어디에 있든지 누구와 있든지 우리가 바라는 것이 주위에 있는 사람들에게 그리스도를 보여주는 것이라면, 그 기대는 부응했음을 알게 될 것이며 더 나아가 그 기대를 능가할 수도 있습니다.
