August 24, AD 79 began as an ordinary day. People were going about their daily business in homes, markets, and at the port of this prosperous Roman town of 20,000 people. In less than 24 hours, Pompeii and many of its people lay buried under a thick layer of volcanic ash. Unexpected. Jesus told His followers that He would return on a day when people were going about their business, sharing meals, and having weddings, with no idea of what was about to happen. Perhaps today!
서기 79년 8월 4일은 다른 평범한 날과 다름없이 시작되었습니다. 2만 여명의 인구를 가진 이 번성하던 로마의 한 도시에서 사람들은 가정과 시장과 항구에서 그들의 일상생활을 하고 있었습니다. 하지만 24시간도 안되어 폼페이와 많은 시민들이 두꺼운 화산재 층 밑에 깔려버렸습니다. 아무도 예상치 못한 일이었습니다. 예수님은 그를 따르는 자들에게 말하시길 사람들이 곧 일어날 일에 대해 아무것도 모른 체 함께 식사하고 결혼식을 하는 등, 일상적으로 생활하는 그런 날에 다시 돌아오시겠다고 하셨습니다. 그날이 어쩌면 오늘일 수도 있습니다!
