In 1867 on a farm in South Africa, 15-year-old Erasmus Jacobs saw a stone glistening in the sun. A mineralogist determined the stone to be a 21.25 carat diamond and worth a great sum. It became known as the “Eureka Diamond.” (The Greek word eureka means “I found it!”) Soon the fields near the Jacobs’ farm soared in value. Underneath the land was one of the richest diamond deposits ever discovered. When we put our faith in Christ, a spiritual “eureka moment” arrives. God gives us forgiveness in His Son. It is the greatest treasure that could ever be found.
1867년 남아프리카의 어느 한 농장에서 열다섯 살 난 에라스무스 제이콥이 돌덩이 하나가 햇빛에 반짝이고 있는 것을 보았습니다. 그 돌덩어리는 광물학자에 의해 21.25캐럿에 달하는 다이아몬드로 엄청난 가치를 지닌 것으로 밝혀졌습니다. 그 돌덩어리는 “유레카 다이아몬드”라고 알려지게 되었습니다(그리스어로 유레카는 “찾았다!”라는 뜻입니다). 곧 제이콥 농장 근처의 땅 값이 천정부지로 치솟았습니다. 그 땅은 이제껏 발견된 곳 중에서 다이아몬드가 가장 많이 매장된 곳 중의 하나였던 것입니다. 우리가 그리스도를 믿을 때 영적인 “유레카 순간”이 찾아옵니다. 하나님은 그분의 아들 안에서 우리에게 용서를 베푸십니다. 이것이 우리가 발견할 수 있는 가장 큰 보화입니다.
