In the 19th century, ships were often recklessly overloaded, resulting in those ships going down and the crews being lost at sea. In 1875, to remedy this negligent practice, British politician Samuel Plimsoll led the charge for legislation to create a line on the side of a ship to show if it was carrying too much cargo. Sometimes, like those ships, our lives can seem overloaded with fears, struggles, and heartaches. However, our heavenly Father loves us deeply and knows our load limits. Watever we face, He will help us to bear it.
19세기에 선박들은 무모할 정도로 화물을 초과 적재하였습니다. 그래서 배가 침몰하고 선원들이 바다에서 실종되는 일이 많았습니다. 1875년에 이 무책임한 관습을 타파하기 위해 영국의 정치가 사무엘 플림솔이 앞장서서 화물의 과적여부를 알 수 있게 선박 옆에 선을 긋는 법을 책정했습니다. 19세기의 선박들처럼, 때로는 우리 삶도 두려움이나 고통, 번민들로 너무 많은 짐을 지고 있는 것처럼 여겨지기도 합니다. 하지만 하늘에 계신 우리 하나님 아버지는 우리를 깊이 사랑하시고 우리가 질 수 있는 짐의 한계를 아시며, 우리가 어떤 일을 만나도 견딜 수 있게 도와주십니다.
